Plate 1 - Background - Brown text and map: Etched using a Photoetch process. I printed an image on acetate and exposed a light sensitive film that was adhered to the zinc plate to sunlight. I think Washed the film and parts that were hidden from light due to the printed design on acetate wash away and leave the plate exposed for etching. This is very much like exposing a screen for screen printing to sunlight. An area where the plate 2 imagery would be was left unetched.
Plate 2 - Man and display case - foreground - black top plate: I etched this using a traditional technique of waxing a clean zinc plate and scraping the wax away where I wanted the acid to eat away at the plate. I dunked it in the acid bath multiple times, slowly taking away wax each time to give the etch some depth.
Plate 1 was run through the press first, then once the paper and ink was dry, I ran the top plate 2 through the press right on top of the first print.
A few people requested prints. I went rummaging for the hi-res file and found it. Prints are available if you like. Hopefully they come out great, I've never used the DeviantArt print system. Let me know how they look!

man in glass by ~rizn is a fascinating example of how a limited colour palette gives complex etchings body and impact. (

it is an amazing piece of art!!!! I haven't printed with Zinc in 25 years!!!!! Yikes!!!!It is an ordeal, but the results are so special. It is wonderful to actually see an original etching on DA!!!!!
I love that you listed your process...it's giving me a bit of inspiration.
