The I.D. of me

Description

Book I made for class project. The book is a collection of work created by designers who inspire me and it also contains some remixes of their work that I made myself. Every page juxtaposes each other to draw comparisons, contrasts and contradictions from the imagery on each side. To show the many facets of style that I am drawn to and how though they may be completely different in style, they have similar qualities and traits that are very important to me. The book was hand made. The exterior are zinc plates, I etched the letters into the plates through acid etching process to create a nice tactile cover that responds wonderfully to different light situations. Also, to show that I am a designer trying to merge the gap between hand-made and computer-made design. all comments welcome :)

100 pages, acid etched zinc cover bound with neopreme and outdoor nylon chair fabric.
Etching Process: I printed the text on transparent plastic sheets, applied a light sensitive adhesive tape to the top of the metal plate. I then placed the printed text onto the sheet, exposed the plate to light and then gently washed away non-exposed portions of the sheet(the letters in this case) in a soap bath. From there I placed the metal plates into an acid bath where only the text was exposed to acid and spent 30 min or so brushing the plate continuously to remove bubbles due to the erosion process in order to create smooth clear text impressions into the plate.

If I can afford it, I will make a color version ! :)

I've been away for a while and I came back to a lot of posts. A few were asking who the designers in my book were. Because all my books are in storage here's a few off the top of my head :P

Charles Wilkin
Designers Republic
Stefan Sagmeister
Phantom: Research Foundation : De manifest
Me Company
Dixonbaxi
Chris Ashworth

There were a lot more some from scrap magazines I had just because I liked some element in it. But I used a lot of Charles Wilkin. And a lot of the spreads were my work basically using elements from all their works and incorporating them into my own compositions.

... interesting thing this..   like the remix idea, -the way its not necessarily obvious to a casual observer, for want of a better term.  i.e.: someone not familiar with each artists work..

inspires me to make books again.

wonder what a reshuffled image orchestra with Herbert Baglione, Jorg Schmeisser, Moebius and Hayao Miyazaki would look like....

- peace.
